Dozens injured in raging clashes with Israeli military

Friday 23-February-2018

Dozens of Palestinians were left injured on Friday in clashes with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) across the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Two Palestinian young men sustained live bullet wounds and dozens of others choked on teargas after the IOF attacked protesters in al-Mazra’a al-Gharbiya village in Ramallah.

Another young man sustained rubber bullet wounds during clashes in Badres village west of Ramallah.

Violent clashes also rocked Nablus’s southern town of Beita where wildfires broke out as a result of the barrages of teargas canisters and acoustic bombs randomly discharged by the IOF.

Clashes also flared up at Hawara military checkpoint south of Nablus where the occupation forces attacked the Palestinian protesters with teargas canisters and live rounds. A Palestinian citizen sustained live bullet injuries and three others were wounded with rubber bullets.

Another round of clashes rocked Nablus’s towns of Salem and Burin resulting in several injuries.

Fierce clashes with the Israeli military further burst out in Salfit.

At the same time the IOF quelled a peaceful march in the Old City of al-Khalil marking the massacre of the Ibrahimi Mosque.

Activist Issa Amr said the IOF prevented the protesters from reaching the Ibrahimi Mosque and cracked down on journalists.

The IOF targeted the demonstrators with teargas grenades and acoustic bombs.

In the meantime three Palestinians sustained rubber bullet wounds after the IOF came down heavily on Kafr Kadoum’s weekly march protesting Israel’s illegal settlement activity and calling for opening the main access road to the town which has been closed by the occupation authorities for 14 years.

Tension has been running high in Occupied Jerusalem after the Israeli forces tightened military grip around Palestinian neighborhoods in al-Issawiya and sealed off the area with military checkpoints.

The IOF also suppressed a nonviolent march and festival staged in Ramallah and al-Bireh.

Clashes broke out in the area and culminated in randomly-unleashed spates of live ammunition and rubber bullets. Several Palestinian protesters sustained breathing disorders and wildfires broke out across olive groves.

The IOF also violently disbanded Ni’lin’s weekly anti-settlement march attacking demonstrators with teargas canisters and acoustic bombs. Journalist Hasan Nafe’ was hit with a teargas canister in his head. Dozens of protesters sustained breathing disorders.

Over recent weeks violent clashes with the Israeli army have rocked the occupied Palestinian territories in protest at the US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the self-proclaimed Israeli state.
