Dozens of extremist Jewish settlers on Tuesday morning stormed Sebastia town north of Nablus in the occupied West Bank at the pretext of performing rituals at an archeological site.
Sebastia mayor Mohamed Azem said that scores of settlers swarmed the archeological area in the town under military protection.
Azem added that the Israeli occupation forces closed the site to Palestinian citizens amid expectation that the settlers would hold celebrations in the area.
The town is exposed to repeated break-ins by settlers and soldiers on allegations of performing rituals at the ancient site which they claim to be Jewish.
Meanwhile local residents and national figures will participate in events to be held today in the town to mark the Palestine Land Day.
