Dozens of Palestinians and activists from the Israeli Peace Now Movement on Friday demonstrated in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem against an Israeli order to evict al-Sabbagh family from the area.
The demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans condemning the Israeli occupation and demanding an end to the settlement in Jerusalem.
The Israeli authorities had given five Palestinian families a time limit until 23rd January to evacuate their homes. After a petition was filed the authorities decided to freeze the order until a final decision is made.
The Jerusalemite citizen Mohammed al-Sabbagh called on the international community to intervene and stop the Israeli practices targeting his family.
“We don’t want to be refugees again. We were expelled from Jaffa and became refugees for the first time in 1948 and it was very painful. In this place our dreams memories and memories of our children and grandchildren live. No law in the world allows our eviction from the place where we have lived for 62 years” he added.
Israeli settlers over the past years have seized many Palestinian homes in Sheikh Jarrah an Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem that is constantly targeted by settler associations.
