The European Union Mission in Palestine has called for a prompt and independent investigation into the execution of the Qatari Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh during her coverage of the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) storming of Jenin.
In a press statement on Wednesday the EU mission expressed its shock over the martyrdom of Abu Aqleh and called for a rapid and independent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice stressing the need to ensure the safety and protection of journalists.
Earlier on Wednesday; the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh after she was shot by the IOF while covering the storming of the Jabriyat neighborhood in Jenin.
The Qatari Al-Jazeera channel held the Israeli occupation authority directly responsible for the death of Abu Aqleh stressing that an Israeli sniper deliberately assassinated her in cold blood.
Shireen Abu Aqleh was one of the first field correspondents for Al Jazeera. For a quarter of a century she was at the center of danger covering wars and attacks by the IOF on the Palestinian people.
The Hamas Movement said that the crime of assassinating Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh will not succeed in obscuring the role of the media and free journalists in conveying the real ugly image of the Israeli occupation its brutality terrorism and crimes against the Palestinian people land and holy sites.
