GAZA (PIC)– The EU is to sign a memo of understanding with the PA finance ministry on Monday 11 June by which it would resume financial assistance to the cash-strapped Authority.
The PA finance minister Salam Fayyadh is expected to sign the memo on behalf of the government while the EU representative John Kjaer is to sign for his commission.
The EU was the biggest donor party to the PA until last year when the Hamas Movement won the PA legislative elections and came to power. The EU joined an Israeli-inspired and USA-led western economic boycott of the PA that led to great deterioration in the Palestinian people’s living conditions.
Hamas joined Fatah faction and other Palestinian forces and parties in forming a national unity government more than three months ago hoping that it would spur western forces to lift the embargo.
