Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education on Saturday called for protecting al-Khan al-Ahmar village and its only school in Jerusalem against demolition.
Minister of Education Sabri Saidam stressed the need to protect the children of al-Khan al-Ahmar Bedouin community and ensure their right to a safe educational environment.
Al-Khan al-Ahmar school is attended by 170 students and it was built in 2009 of used car tires and mud.
Saidam in a press statement affirmed that the newly-issued decision to demolish al-Khan al-Ahmar and its school and the repeated threats and attacks waged against the Bedouin village will not intimidate the families and will never affect the children’s determination to complete their education.
The Palestinian minister also called for serious actions on the legal political and diplomatic levels to put an end to the Israeli violations.
He stressed that Israel’s constant targeting of Palestinian schools located in Area C is part of systematic Israeli incitement against the education sector and a result of international silence and absence of practical measures to stop the Israeli crimes.
Al-Khan al-Ahmar school consists of 9 classrooms and its teaching staff includes 15 teachers. The school has received dozens of demolition notices since it was established in 2009.
