Egypt is conducting intensive contacts around the clock in order to contain the situation in Gaza the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement on Friday night.
“Cairo is working to calm down the latest escalation in Gaza. We hope to reach a consensus to return to calm as soon as possible” the statement reads.
Along the same line an Egyptian official told a local TV channel that Egypt is conducting intensive communications with the Israelis to immediately end the ongoing escalation in Gaza.
Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya has earlier told the Egyptian Intelligence that Israel is responsible for the attacks which were conducted without any provocation.
Earlier Friday ten people were killed – including an Islamic Jihad commander and a five-year-old child – and 65 were wounded in a series of Israeli aerial strikes on various areas of the Gaza Strip.
