The Egyptian authorities opened Rafah crossing on Saturday for the return of the Palestinians stranded in the Egyptian side to the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Interior’s crossing and border authority in Gaza said in a statement that Rafah crossing will be opened in one direction for three days for the return of the stranded people.

The crossing and border authority announced that the number of the people registered for travel outside Gaza is about 20000 including patients students and holders of foreign residency and passports.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Interior the opening of Rafah crossing comes for the first time in 55 days a period that was described as the longest closure over the past eight months which led to exacerbating the suffering of passengers.

Rafah border crossing connects the Gaza Strip with the outside world through Egypt. The crossing was closed almost completely in July 2013 and is opened at spaced intervals for humanitarian cases.
