Egypt’s Rafah crossing point with Gaza closed before non-students

Monday 18-December-2017

Rafah border crossing with Gaza will be kept open on Tuesday so as to allow stranded students access out of and into the enclave authorities have said.

The Palestine Embassy in Cairo said the crossing will be opened in both directions before stranded Gazans.

However Director-General of the Crossings Department Nadhmi Nehanna said only students will be allowed to pass through Rafah passageway on Tuesday.

The Egyptian authorities have banned dozens of students from the blockaded Gaza Strip to pass through Rafah crossing point as they tried to reach their universities abroad.

The Egyptian authorities have kept Rafah border crossing Gaza’s sole passageway shut down since March. Since the start of 2017 the crossing has been opened for 18 days only leaving thousands of Gazans including hundreds of sick civilians and humanitarian cases stranded.
