Egypt to open Rafah crossing for return of stranded Gazans

Sunday 10-May-2020

Egyptian authorities will open Rafah border crossing for three days this week to allow Palestinians stranded in Egypt to return to the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian embassy in Cairo said in a statement that it was informed by the Egyptian authorities that the crossing will be opened for three days starting Tuesday.

Salama Ma’rouf head of Gaza’s government office said that 1000-1500 Palestinians are expected to return to the Gaza Strip in the coming days.

Rafah crossing has been shut down since mid-March as part of precautionary measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the besieged Gaza Strip.
