Egyptian intelligence minister Khalid Fawzi is set to travel to Ramallah on Monday for a meeting with the Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas and then he will head to the Gaza Strip through Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing.
Sources told the PIC reporter that the Egyptian minister will visit the Palestinian territories to monitor the reconciliation process and pave the way for the PA government to assume its responsibilities in the enclave.
An Egyptian media delegation arrived on Monday afternoon in Ramallah ahead of their scheduled visit to Gaza to cover the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
According to the PIC reporter an Egyptian security delegation arrived in the Gaza Strip on Sunday to discuss security arrangements related to the PA government’s visit and met with the Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya.
The PA government’s premier Rami Hamdallah on Monday announced that his government will soon start assuming its administrative responsibility in the Gaza Strip.
Hamdallah said in a speech he delivered upon his arrival at Beit Hanoun crossing that the government’s success is based on its performance and ability to make a positive impact on citizens’ lives.
