Egyptian lawyers to sue Israel over Beit Hanoun Massacre

Friday 8-December-2006

NAZERETH (PIC) — A number of Egyptian lawyers approached the Mayor of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip and suggested taking Israel to the International Court of Justice in The Hague over last November’s Beit Hanoun Massacre according to Hebrew media sources.

According to Haaretz which published the article the Egyptian lawyers who are members of the Egyptian Lawyers Syndicate sent the letter to Muhammad al-Kafarna the Mayor of Beit Hanoun suggesting they represent the effected families free of charge. The Mayor for his part approached the effected families and asked them to provide documents authorizing the lawyers to act on their behalf.

The paper further warned that since massacre which claimed the lives of 20 innocent Palestinians was committed the Israeli government has been irked about the consequences.

In the same context the paper revealed that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour who visited Palestine lately brought up the issue of compensations during a meeting in occupied Jerusalem with the Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Furthermore Archbishop Desmond Tutu is conducting his own inquiry into the gruesome massacre and is expected to file his findings with the Geneva based U.N Human Rights council.
