Egyptian official expects prisoners’ swap deal within weeks

Nazareth – Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman has predicted that the prisoners’ swap deal between the Palestinians and Israel would be concluded within the few coming weeks.

Suleiman who was speaking after meeting Israeli war minister Amir Peretz on Wednesday discussed with the latter the question of the prisoners’ deal.

The Egyptian official also met with Israeli premier Ehud Olmert and the head of the Israeli foreign intelligence apparatus over means of stabilizing the calm between Palestinian resistance factions and Israel.

Suleiman also surprisingly met with the Israeli minister of strategic affairs Avigdor Lieberman who had once called for bombing the Egyptian High Dam.

Media sources described the meeting as “positive” and quoted Lieberman as expressing optimism over the near release of the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit before end of this year.

Suleiman headed to Israel after meeting PA premier Ismail Haneyya in Cairo.
