Egyptian security delegation arrives in Gaza Strip

An Egyptian security delegation arrived on Tuesday afternoon in the Gaza Strip through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing on a visit that was not announced in advance.

The governmental media office of the crossings said in a terse statement that the Egyptian security delegation had arrived without prior notice.

The Egyptian intelligence delegation led by Ahmed Abdel Khalek the intelligence officer in charge of the Palestinian portfolio had previously held extensive meetings with the leadership of Hamas. During these meetings the two sides discussed several security and political issues.

In recent months the Egyptian intelligence delegation had visited Ramallah and met with members of the Fatah Movement and the head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Service.

The meetings focused on discussing the political and security situation in Palestine in addition to the Palestinian reconciliation file between Hamas and Fatah Movements.

The last Egyptian delegation to visit Gaza had arrived in December 2020.

Egyptian security delegation arrives in Gaza Strip

A delegation from Egypt’s intelligence service arrived in the Gaza Strip on Thursday to continue talks with Palestinian factions on inter-Palestinian reconciliation and truce with Israel.

The delegation headed by the Egyptian intelligence officer in charge of the Palestinian file Ahmad Abdel-Khaliq crossed into Gaza via the Erez crossing on Thursday evening.

The Egyptian delegation is expected to meet with leaders of Hamas Movement and other Palestinian factions with the aim of reaching a truce between Hamas and Israel and achieving Palestinian reconciliation between the Palestinian rivals.

The visit is the fifth of its kind within the past month.
