Eight injured by IOF gunfire during clashes in northern Nablus

Sunday 19-December-2021

Eight Palestinian citizens suffered from rubber bullet injuries and dozens from tear gas during violent clashes on Saturday evening with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in the north of the West Bank.

Red Crescent official Ahmed Jibril said that eight citizens were injured by rubber bullets and 55 others suffered from their exposure to tear gas during clashes in Burqa village in northern Nablus.

He added that Red Crescent ambulance crews evacuated local families from three homes in the town after the IOF intensively fired tear gas in the area.

Local activist Sami Abu Omar told Quds Press that a horde of extremist Jewish settlers rallied on a high hill overlooking Burqa village and tried to attack its homes.

“After using Mosque loudspeakers in the village to urge the citizens to defend their homes dozens of local residents and young men rushed to the area where the settlers rallied and fended them off” Abu Omar said.

Later IOF soldiers stormed the village and embarked on showering homes with tear gas canisters and firing rubber bullets at local young men.

Meanwhile the area between the West Bank towns of Burqa Bizzariya Silat ad-Dhahr saw violent clashes between local youths and Israeli forces after settlers infiltrated into the same area to launch attacks against Palestinian citizens and their property.

Local sources told a reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the clashes occurred at the main entrances to these towns which are located on the Nablus-Jenin road and near the evacuated site of Homesh settlement where a Jewish settler from the extremist hilltop group was killed recently.

The sources added that the IOF closed the area from Silat ad-Dhahr to the illegal settlement of Shavei Shomron and placed concrete blocks on a nearby road.

On Saturday evening a large number of extremist Jewish settlers went to the Homesh site aboard buses and chanted slogans and death threats against the local residents.
