Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday evening said in a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin that Israeli escalation in occupied Jerusalem is unacceptable.
Erdogan’s statements came in reference to the new Israeli restrictions on Palestinians’ entry into al-Aqsa Mosque.
He stressed during the phone conversation that Muslims should be able to enter al-Aqsa without any restrictions within the framework of freedom of religion and worship.
Worshipers wishing to enter al-Aqsa could not be considered as terrorists he told Rivlin.
Erdogan expressed “regret” over Israeli forces’ attacks on peaceful worshipers on Friday in occupied Jerusalem.
Earlier on Friday three Palestinians were killed and scores of others injured amid mass protests over new Israeli security measures at al-Aqsa Mosque in different locations in Occupied Jerusalem.
