Euro-Med asks ECA to probe PA’s misuse of European funds

The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has asked the European Court of Auditors (ECA) in Luxembourg to investigate the use of European funds by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to violate human rights.

In Facebook remarks Euro-Med director Ramy Abdu said his organization had submitted a request to head of the court Klaus-Heiner Lehne asking him to investigate the utility of funds spent by the European Union for the reform of the Palestinian Authority justice and prosecution systems.

Abdu said that this request was made in view of human rights violations committed by the PA justice and prosecution authorities most recently their decision to block websites with no legal grounds.

PA attorney general Ahmed Barak issued an edict on June 15 ordering internet service providers to block access to at least 11 Palestinian news websites.

The censored websites include the Palestinian Information Center Palestine Now Palestine Today the Shehab News Agency Omamah Amad the Palestine News Network Karama Press Fateh Voice the Palestine Press News Agency and Firas Press.
