Dozens of Israeli settlers led by the extremist MK Yehuda Glick stormed al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday under police guard.
Jerusalem’s Islamic Awqaf Department said that heavily armed policemen accompanied the settlers during the break-in until they left the site via al-Silsila Gate.
The Israeli police closed al-Maghareba Gate after allowing 37 settlers including Glick and 34 Jewish students from religious institutes and Israeli universities to enter the Mosque.
Another group of settlers is expected to visit the Mosque following noon prayer for a one-hour tour.
