Families of detained Qatar Charity employees call for their release

Tuesday 20-December-2016

The families of five detained employees of Qatar Charity called on the Qatari and Palestinian authorities to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to release them especially that they have been incarcerated for nearly 16 months without trial.

The families appealed to the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to interfere to release the five employees who were detained on 7th September 2015 and put an end to their suffering inside the Israeli jails.

Hasan Ouda brother of the detainee Najwan Ouda said that the IOA accused his sister and her colleagues of working for a banned organization despite the fact that Qatar Charity is a non-profit foundation that is registered in the Palestinian Ministry of Interior in Ramallah since 2009 and follows the laws and instructions of the civil society institutions in Palestine.

Ouda told Quds Press news agency that the Palestinian office of Qatar Charity was opened seven years ago according to the directives of the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and the then Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani.

He pointed out that the Israeli courts held more than 13 court hearings for the five employees and constantly extended their detention without specific charges. He added that the five employees have never been detained before on affiliation with Palestinian factions.

“The detention of the five employees infringes on the Qatari and Palestinian sovereignty” Ouda said calling on the Qatari and the Palestinian authorities to employ their international ties to pressure Israel into releasing them.
