Family of Abulhaija denounces IOA for extending his isolation for one year

Thursday 26-January-2012

JENIN (PIC)– Family members of Palestinian prisoner Sheikh Jamal Abhulhaija have denounced the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) for extending his solitary confinement for one more year.

They told the PIC reporter that the Israeli Nafha prison administration handed the Sheikh the decision to extend his isolation for the ninth consecutive year.

Abulhaija informed his daughter Sajeda with the news during her last visit to him and added that the decision reneged on Israel’s pledges in the prisoners’ exchange deal in which it promised to end the isolation of Palestinians prisoners.

Abulhaija asked the Egyptian mediator to intervene and compel Israel to implement all articles of the deal.

The Sheikh is serving nine life sentences in addition to 20 years and has been in isolation ever since his detention eight years ago. He suffers a number of illnesses and had his right hand amputated after the Israeli occupation forces shot him during the invasion of Jenin refugee camp in 2002.
