Fatah militias shoot at Hamas center catering for displaced refugees in Lebanon

Sunday 17-June-2007

BEIRUT (PIC)– Hamas Movement has strongly condemned Fatah faction’s attempt to transfer Hamas-Fatah feud in occupied Palestine into Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.

The Movement was apparently referring to the shooting incident Saturday by armed men affiliated with Fatah faction at a Hamas center assisting Palestinian refugees displaced from the war-torn Nahr Al-Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon.

According to local sources and eyewitnesses the shooting took place while Hamas volunteers were distributing relief items and foodstuff to the refugees that spread panic and confusion among women and children waiting to get their shares.

Ahmad Abdul Hadi of Hamas’ office in Lebanon affirmed in statement he made to the PIC that Hamas deprecated the incident and called for the immediate prosecution of the perpetrators.

But he asserted that his Movement is mature enough and will not be dragged into the quagmire of infighting on the Lebanese arena adding that Hamas is very much concerned with enhancing Palestinian unity; but it will not allow any attack on its institutions.

He added that the Movement’s leadership in Lebanon contacted Lebanese premier Fuad Al-Seniora and briefed him about the incident and urged him to put pressure on Fatah leadership to discipline its cadres and to prosecute the wrongdoers.

Few days ago a hand grenade was hurled by unknown elements at the house of Hamas political leader in Sidon south of Beirut. Local observes opined that the incident was part of Fatah instigation campaign against Hamas in the Lebanese arena.

Fighters of Hamas Movement were able to neutralize the mutiny trend within the PA security apparatuses and took control in the tiny Gaza Strip prompting leaders of the mutiny trend to flee the Strip and seek refuge in Egypt and the West Bank.

Hebrew sources also affirmed that Israeli navy vessels helped a number of Fatah leaders associated with the “treason trend” to flee Gaza by sea.

Media reports affirmed that the Strip was observing an unprecedented state of calm as life returned to normal in Gaza streets.
