The Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council warned of the implications of the Israeli decision to demolish the al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan town south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.
This means the demolition of dozens of homes to build a biblical garden for the Judaization projects and will lead to the displacement of dozens of Palestinian families it added.
The council said during a session held on Sunday headed by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council Muhammad Hussein that this step is a dangerous precedent in the history of Jerusalem.
It added that this step is the beginning of the demolition of entire neighborhoods and mass deportations which aim to empty the town from its original inhabitants.
The council also denounced the threat of displacement and deportation of 28 families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
The council warned that these attacks coincide with the escalation of the provocative measures taken by the Israeli occupation and settlers in Al-Aqsa and its courtyards as the excavations under it have increased recently.
It stressed that the occupation is exploiting the closures of the corona pandemic to carry out more excavations under the Mosque which would weaken its foundations and threaten its collapse.
The council also condemned the occupation’s decision to demolish the Khirbet al-Maita in the northern Jordan Valley as part of the plans to empty the area from Palestinians.
Regarding the continuous attacks on the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil the council condemned the occupation’s approval of building an elevator for settlers inside it.
“This aims to seize the biggest possible part of its area change its historical features and complete the Judaization plans that has been ongoing since the massacre of the (Ibrahimi) Mosque in February 1994” the statement underlined.
It pointed out that the occupation seeks to empty the Ibrahimi Mosque from Muslim worshipers through oppressive measures such as closing electronic gates which obstruct the access of citizens to it and detaining them.
The council called on the international community and the specialized international organizations to take serious and effective action to ensure the implementation of the international legitimacy decisions regarding Jerusalem the Al-Aqsa Mosque the Ibrahimi Mosque and the entire Palestinian lands.
