Fatwa: The Aqsa Mosque belongs exclusively to the Muslim Nation

Monday 20-March-2017

A renewed fatwa (edict) on the Aqsa Mosque was handed down on Sunday by senior Palestinian religious figures in Occupied Jerusalem reiterating that “the Islamic holy shrine belongs exclusively to all Muslims and cannot be compromised on or waived.”

Backing their fatwa with excerpts from the holy Qur’an and Hadith the Muslim clerics highlighted the “miracle of Isra and Mi’raj” (the night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad) and the Aqsa Mosque’s association with this miraculous incident and the Holy Mosques in Makkah and Medina.

Their fatwa stressed that the Aqsa Mosque is “part of the Muslims’ faith pursuant to a divine ordinance from Almighty Allah.”

“The Aqsa Mosque belongs to all Muslims in all quarters of the globe and it is not confined to the people of Palestine alone. This divine privilege will continue to exist until the Day of Judgment. It is not subject to compromises or negotiations nor can an iota of its soil be relinquished” the fatwa underscored.

The fatwa was issued on March 19 2017 by Sheikh Mohamed Hussein Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine Sheikh Abdul-Azeem Salhab Director of the Council of Awqaf and Islamic affairs in Jerusalem and Sheikh Ikrima Sabri Director of the Higher Islamic Commission in Jerusalem.
