Fayyad meets with Israeli foreign minister after meeting with Barak

Monday 9-July-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– An official source in the Israeli foreign minister’s office confirmed that minister Tzipi Livni had met with Salam Fayyad the premier of the PA’s unconstitutional “emergency” government in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday evening for the first time since assuming office last month.

According to the official source “the talks addressed primarily the PA conditions and the ways to improve the Palestinians’ livelihood taking into account the Israeli security interests in addition to addressing the plan of disarming the militias” (referring to the Palestinian resistance factions in the West Bank).

An official source in the Fayyad’s office claimed that the meeting with Livni addressed “broader political issues not just lifting checkpoint barriers here and there.”

The sources added that Fayyad called on the IOA to stop going after resistance activists in the West Bank so as to enable him to implement his security plan and to disarm the resistance.

Fayyad who is also the foreign and finance minister of his government discussed ways in which the Arab world could support the political process in a way boosting dialogue between the Zionists and Palestinians according to Fayyad’s office.

Israeli premier Ehud Olmert had expressed his satisfaction regarding PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’s edict dissolving and disarming the Palestinian resistance which is now being implemented by Fayyad on the ground and hailed Abbas’s and Fayyad’s efforts in this regard.

While Abbas insists on refusing to accept dialogue with Hamas a new meeting between him and Ehud Olmert is expected to be held in mid-July.
