Fears grow as Israel tries to impose its curriculum on J’lem schools

Saturday 30-July-2022

The Israeli occupation authority’s decision to revoke the licenses of several Palestinian schools in east Jerusalem have stoked Palestinian fears of its attempt to impose the Israeli curriculum on Palestinian students.

Israeli minister of education Yifat Shasha-Biton revoked on Thursday the licenses of six schools in east Jerusalem.

Biton said in a statement that she took the decision because of the incitement against Israel and its army in Palestinian school textbooks adding that she would deal with such incitement severely.

She also said that she summoned the principals of these schools for a hearing and then informed them of its decision to cancel the permanent licenses of their schools and give them conditional licenses for a year as a chance to make changes to their curriculums.

In this regard the Palestinian ministry of Jerusalem affairs has condemned such Israeli attempt to Israelize the Palestinian education in Occupied Jerusalem through putting more pressures on its schools.

In 2015 the IOA had forced a number of Palestinian schools in the holy city to adopt the Israeli curriculum.
