TRIPOLI (PIC)– The fighting in Nahr al-Bared was halted on Thursday night after the Palestinian Scholars League managed to convince Fatah al-Islam to announce a one sided truce.
The Lebanese Defense Minister Elias al-Mor announced Thursday night the end of the military operation around the refugee camp.
He also said that the Lebanese army has destroyed all the posts of Fatah al-Islam but the camp will remain under siege until the surrender of the group’s fighters.
It was also reported that 76 Lebanese soldiers were killed and 150 others were wounded during the one-month-long battle with the group.
Thousands of Palestinian refugees had to flee the camp at the start of the fighting to other refugee camps in Lebanon. Residents of the camp face an uncertain future after the vast destruction to the homes and the infrastructure of the camp.
