Israeli police forces arrested on Tuesday evening five Palestinian young men of the same family in Rahat city within the Green Line under the pretext of “building a tent on a state land without a permit” in District No. 11.
The Magistrate’s Court in Beersheba is scheduled to consider a police’s request to extend their detention. However it is expected that they will be released under certain conditions.
Dozens of Rahat residents earlier set up tents in District No. 11; in protest at the city housing crisis.
1950 families from Rahat have submitted demands to obtain housing units in the city suburbs however only 450 were accepted.
It is estimated that 12000 Palestinians families suffer from housing shortages in Rahat.
