Sunday 24-July-2022

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnaped at least five Palestinian citizens and wounded another during campaigns in the West Bank at dawn Sunday.

According to local sources the IOF stormed Qabatiya town in southern Jenin clashed with local youths and exchanged fire with resistance fighters.

One young man was reportedly injured in his back during the events and rushed to a local hospital.

The IOF also broke into and ransacked the house of Maher Zakarnah before kidnaping him and two others during the same campaign in Qabatiya.

In Bethlehem the IOF kidnaped two citizens from their homes during raids in Hindaza town and Aida refugee camp.

On Saturday five Palestinian citizens including a child suffered from rubber bullet injuries and dozens from inhaling tear gas during clashes with the IOF in Kafr Qaddum town east of Qalqilya.

Local media sources said that the IOF stormed Kafr Qaddum and fired tear gas canisters and rubber bullets at participants in the weekly anti-settlement march organized in the town.

Residents of Kafr Qaddum started staging weekly marches in 2011 to protest Israeli settlement activities and land grabs and to demand in particular the reopening of their village’s southern road which has been blocked by the IOF for 14 years. This road is the main route to the nearby city of Nablus the nearest economic center.

The Israeli army blocked off the road after expanding the illegal settlement of Kedumim in 2003 forcing the local residents to take a bypass road in order to travel to Nablus which has extended the travel time to Nablus from 15 minutes to 40 minutes according to Israeli rights group B’Tselem.

In a separate incident a large number of Israeli police forces stormed on Saturday evening Shuafat refugee camp in east Jerusalem and kidnaped several young men from their homes.

Clashes also broke out on the same day with Palestinian youths in at-Tur neighborhood near the Old City of Jerusalem after Israeli policemen stormed its streets and embarked on firing tear gas canisters on passersby and homes.
