For 3rd time in one week Israel floods Gaza farmland

Saturday 18-January-2020

For the third consecutive time in one week the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Saturday morning flooded a vast tract of cultivated land with rainwater in the east of Gaza Strip after opening dams.

According to the Palestinian agriculture ministry the IOA intentionally opened the dams draining rainwater into the agricultural area of Shuja’iyya neighborhood in the east of Gaza City.

As a result over 1000 dunums of land planted with wheat barley peas cabbage and cauliflower have been flooded and destroyed.

Last week large swathes of agricultural land were also flooded in two separate occasions when the IOA released collected rainwater into Gaza.

Israel’s intentional opening of dams’ gates has caused hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to agricultural areas in Gaza.

Israel which built many dams in the region periodically opens their gates leading to the flooding of homes and land in Gaza.
