France says Israel should cancel demolition of Khan al-Ahmar

Tuesday 23-October-2018

France on Tuesday asked Israel to cancel its plan to demolish Khan al-Ahmar village which is located east of Occupied Jerusalem.

The French Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on the Israeli authorities to cancel their project to demolish Khan al-Ahmar village stressing that the Bedouin community is “necessary for the two-state solution and the future Palestinian state”.

The Ministry expressed France’s concern over the forcible transfer of the Palestinian families of Khan al-Ahmar.

The United Nations as well as many European governments have pressured Israel to stop the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar since it would separate the West Bank’s northern part from the south thus making it more difficult to establish an independent Palestinian state in the future.

Khan al-Ahmar is inhabited by about 200 Palestinians 53% of whom are children and 95% are refugees registered with the UNRWA.

Israel’s Supreme Court in May officially ruled for demolishing the Bedouin village and its school which is attended by 170 students living in Khan al-Ahmar and neighboring communities.
