Freedoms Committee concerned over Israeli restrictions on Sheikh Salah

Sunday 1-August-2021

The Freedoms Committee in 1948 occupied Palestine (Israel) has expressed its deep concern over the reported Israeli restrictions imposed on Sheikh Ra’ed Saleh the head of the Islamic Movement in solitary confinement.

Lawyers who recently met Sheikh Salah told the Freedoms Committee that the Israeli prison service prohibited the Sheikh from obtaining books and newspapers and refused to respond to his simplest needs.

The Committee called for necessarily ending the isolation of Sheikh Salah and the restrictions imposed on him describing the prison sentence against him as unfair and his solitary confinement as an unjustified punishment aimed at increasing his suffering.

The Committee called for transferring Sheikh Salah from the desert Ramon jail to a prison in Beersheba near his residential area and ending his solitary confinement immediately.

It said that it intends to organize a series of protest steps to demand an end to the punitive measures against Sheikh Salah adding that the first step would be the holding of a Friday khutba (sermon) and prayer outside the Ramon jail on August 18 2021.
