Gaza: Citizens protest worsening health and economic conditions

Thursday 15-February-2018

Al-Ahrar Movement on Wednesday organized a sit-in on the Palestinian side of Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing in the besieged Gaza Strip in protest at the deterioration of the health and economic situation.

Scores of al-Ahrar supporters and members dignitaries and officials from the ministry of religious affairs participated in the sit-in.

“We have come today to the Beit Hanoun crossing to sound the alarm against the blockade and the difficult situation on all levels especially with regard to the health services and to urge the consensus government to assume its responsibilities fully towards Gaza” spokesman for the Movement Yasser Khalaf said addressing the participants in the protest.

“Otherwise it (the government) has to leave immediately and all parties should embark on forming a national government or a national salvation government capable of solving the Gaza Strip’s problems” Khalaf added.

“This situation cannot be tolerated so the popular pressure will continue until the siege on Gaza is lifted and everyone should raise their voice against those who conspire against us” he underlined.

For his part Sheikh Hani Mansour senior official of the ministry of religious affairs expressed his dismay and regret at the complicity of some Arab parties in conspiracies against the Gaza population “who has been suffering from stifling siege for about 11 years.”

“We are facing tragedy and suffering while the whole world is conspiring against us and the Aqsa is being exposed to violations…Gaza is dying and there are patients who could die as they are waiting for travel. Everyone is crying and calling for help but unfortunately lifeless are those you call upon” Sheikh Mansour said.

He appealed to all Muslim scholars of the Arab and Islamic worlds and the world’s free people to stand by the suppressed Palestinian people and encourage the nations to support the Gaza population and work on removing the inhumane blockade imposed on them.
