Gaza: Journalists demand int’l inquiry into Israeli crimes

Sunday 8-April-2018

The Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip on Saturday rallied to demand the international community to form an international inquiry commission to investigate Israel’s crimes against journalists and to provide them with protection.

This came during a protest sit-in held on Saturday outside al-Shifa Hospital ahead of the funeral of slain journalist Yasser Murtaja who died of a serious bullet injury as he was covering Friday’s protests in Gaza.

In a speech on behalf of the participants head of the Forum of Palestinian Journalists Emad al-Efranji called for sending an international commission to Gaza to probe Israel’s crimes against journalists.

Efranji described the Israeli army’s deliberate targeting of journalists as part of Israel’s desperate attempts to suppress the truth and hide its violations.

He also called on international media institutions to express solidarity with the Palestinian journalists who are exposed to serious Israeli violations.
