Gaza: Palestinians rally in solidarity with Nael Barghouthi

Monday 7-November-2016

Wa’ed Society for Detainees and Ex-Detainees on Monday morning organized a sit-in in solidarity with dean of the Palestinian prisoners Nael al-Barghouthi outside the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza City.

In a speech during the sit-in ex-detainee Tawfiq Abu Naim appealed to international human rights groups to break their silence on Israel’s violations against the Palestinian prisoners in its jails.

Abu Naim expressed his belief that the Palestinian resistance would extract the freedom of all prisoners including Nael al-Barghouthi.

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Sunday refused to release Barghouthi after he ended his prison term.

Iman Nafie the prisoner’s wife said the Israeli prosecution office had submitted an objection to his release which was scheduled for November 6.

59-year-old Barghouthi who is known as the dean of the prisoners was one of those prisoners who obtained their freedom in 2011 as part of the swap deal between the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and Israel before he was rearrested again in June 2014.

He is considered the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails where he has spent a total of 36 years.
