Gaza: Protesters demand release of transfers sent to orphans

Monday 27-November-2017

Hundreds of impoverished orphans and their families rallied on Sunday outside the headquarters of the monetary authority in Gaza in protest at the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) insistence on not releasing remittances sent to them over years.

The protesters carried banners demanding the PA to shoulder its responsibilities towards their needs and lift a freeze on modest financial contributions transferred to them by philanthropists.

In this regard Hazem al-Nakhala head of a charity in Gaza stated that tens of thousands of orphans and hundreds of poor families need these financial transfers affirming that the poverty rate reached 70 percent in their rank.

Nakhala appealed to international organizations to pressure the PA and its monetary authority to immediately release all transfers sent to Gaza orphans.
