Gaza: Sit-in against Israeli re-arrest of prisoners freed in 2011

Monday 20-June-2022

The Prisoners Committee and major Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip organized on Monday a sit-in in solidarity with 55 prisoners who were rejailed by the Israeli occupation state after they were released as part of the 2011 swap deal.

Representatives from the Palestinian Captive Movement factions rights groups as well as ex-detainees and relatives of prisoners participated in the rally that was staged outside the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza City.

Addressing the rally senior Fatah official Hilal Jaradat said that re-arresting those prisoners after their release following a swap deal was a crime and a new blow to the UN Amnesty and Human rights Watch which he accused of turning a blind eye to the issue of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and Israel’s violations against them.

Jaradat called on the international community and the Egyptian mediator to pressure the occupation state to respect the prisoner exchange agreement it had agreed upon in 2011 and release all the Palestinian citizens who were rejailed following the deal.
