Gaza: The wounded start hunger strike in protest at withheld salaries

Wednesday 13-March-2019

A number of wounded citizens in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday started an open-ended hunger strike in protest at the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) decision to cut off their salaries.

Dharif al-Gharra one of the participants told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that he and other wounded citizens whose salaries were withheld by the PA decided to go on open-ended hunger strike until they restored their dignity which he said is “more important than salaries.”

Gharra said that they took such step as a last attempt to pressure the decision-makers in Ramallah to give them back their salaries pointing out that the PA had cut off the salaries of about 1100 wounded citizens 70 days ago.

He also said that the wounded would organize an open sit-in in Gaza calling on all citizens to support them in their battle to restore their dignity.
