Three Israeli soldiers at dawn Thursday suffered bullet injuries after a gunman believed to be from the Palestinian resistance opened fire at them near the border fence in the south of the Gaza Strip.
A spokesman for the Israeli occupation army affirmed that the Palestinian who carried out the shooting attack was killed in an exchange of fire with him expressing his belief that the gunman acted alone and independently.
One officer had moderate wounds and two soldiers were slightly injured in the incident.
According to the Hebrew media the gunmen also threw at least one grenade at Israeli forces in the area of Kissufim south of Gaza.
During the incident the army closed roads near the border and additional forces were sent to protect nearby border settlements while a tank also bombed an observation post belonging to the resistance on the Palestinian side of the border.
The identity of the gunman who was killed on the Israeli side of the border is still unknown.
