Gaza’s Ministry of Health on Sunday said that 860 surgeries planned for the past eight days have been postponed due to the strike launched by cleaning staff at Gaza hospitals over unpaid salaries.
Director general of Gaza hospitals Abdullatif al-Haj said in a press statement that surgeries have been suspended due to the accumulation of garbage and medical waste and the lack of safe environment in health facilities.
The Ministry has been complaining for over a month of an escalating crisis in the health sector resulting from the Palestinian Authority government’s failure to assume its responsibilities toward the Gaza Strip following the Cairo reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas in October 2017.
