Gaza ministry: Cancer patients entered critical stage

Friday 30-June-2017

The Ministry of Health in Gaza expressed on Friday its deep concern over the lives of dozens of patients with blood diseases and cancer who have entered a critical stage due to the delayed treatment and the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) decision to deprive the Gaza hospitals of their share of medical supplies and to suspend medical referrals abroad.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement that all parties are required to pressure the PA to supply drugs immediately since patients need urgent chemical doses and immunosuppressive drugs.

It also called for pushing the PA to complete the procedures of issuing referrals abroad urgently before more patients die.

The Ministry called on Egypt to open Rafah crossing which constitutes a “lifeline” for hundreds of patients who are in need for treatment abroad.

It asked the international and human rights organizations to pressure Israel to stop its racist practices against the Gazan patients and respect the international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention with regard to ensuring safe transfer of patients.
