GAZA (PIC)– Gaza electricity company said it received 200000 liters of industrial fuel enough to partially operate the only power station for only one and a half days.
Public relations officer of the company Jamal Al-Dardasawi told the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Sunday evening that the station operated one unit of its generators after Israel allowed in a limited amount of fuel.
Dardasawi noted that the hours of power outages would increase expressing hope that more fuel shipments are allowed into Gaza in order to avoid consequent environmental and health crises.
For its part Al-Ahrar Movement strongly denounced the unconstitutional government of Salam Fayyad for disregarding the lives of thousands of Gazans and causing a power crisis in the Strip.
Ahrar accused Fayyad’s government of using the electricity issue politically in a blatant attempt to incite the Palestinian street against the legitimate government in Gaza and punish the Gazans for their steadfastness and rallying around the Palestinian resistance.
It held Fayyad fully responsible for all disastrous consequences of the power crisis and the lives of hundreds of patients in Gaza hospitals.
For his part Palestinian minister of health Basem Naim said that the power crisis was done on purpose by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its government in Ramallah in order to pressure the Gaza people and force the Palestinian government headed by premier Ismail Haneyya to change its national positions.
During the opening of children’s hospital in Deir Al-Balah town in central Gaza Naim refuted the claims made by the PA about the payments for fuel shipments needed to operate the power station affirming that the PA does not want to end the crisis at the moment.
He stressed that the Palestinian government in Gaza is working hard to solve the problem away from any political disputes in order to ensure that all areas of Gaza are provided with electricity.
The minister also appealed to international and local organizations to immediately intervene to end the power crisis and thus save the lives of hundreds of patients in Gaza hospitals.
Al-Mizan center for human rights also called on Fayyad’s government to supply regularly the power station in Gaza with the fuel needed to operate its generators affirming that the station is in a good operational status and only needs fuel.
The center noted that the occurrence of power outages in Gaza in such sweltering weather would increase the suffering of Gaza people and affect the access of piped water to homes.
