Gaza’s painters translate pain into art

Tuesday 8-May-2018

Holding on to their painting brushes and gouache a consortium of Palestinian artists from different ages have gathered in the besieged Gaza Strip to translate their woes and hopes into visual representations.

A collection of portraits landscapes and imaginary depictions appear on a set of boards made up of wood paper or glass.

Each and every painting is marked with a different mosaic of colors tastes and tones. However they all share one single dream: to have all refugees return to their motherland—Palestine.

One of the paintings depicts the horrendous Israeli crimes against the Palestinian protesters with drops of blood scattered all over the painting and grenades thrown here and there to reflect the aggressions wrought on the Palestinian people throughout their anti-occupation struggle.

On another board appears a gigantic key that epitomizes Palestinians’ right of return. By its side figures the Dome of the Rock at holy al-Aqsa Mosque in a reflection of the destination the Palestinians wish to reach by the end of their national liberation struggle.

The event is another chain in a series of events staged since March 30 the day marking the launch of the Great March of Return protests to speak up for Palestinians’ right of return.

Some 50 Palestinians were killed during the protests and over 5000 have been left injured. Tensions are expected to reach a zenith on May 15 marking the Palestinian Nakba day.
