Gaza-supporters from Greece cause delays on El Al flights in Athens

Wednesday 14-July-2010

ATHENS (PIC)– Athens airport officials announced Wednesday morning that twenty Greek activists caused delays in check-in counters of the Israeli El Al airlines in Athens international airport in support of Gaza and rejection of Israel’s imposed blockade.

Giorgios Pontikos spokesman of the communist-backed trade union which initiated the demonstration said in a press statement “It’s a symbolic action to protest against the siege on Gaza.”

The activists gathered without police intervention two hours before the scheduled departure of an El Al flight to occupied Palestine chanting slogans calling for the liberation of Palestine and an end to the siege. The demonstrators dispersed from the airport a half hour before the flight’s scheduled time of departure.

The trade union association has a reputation of related movements aimed particularly at social and economic government policies.
