A rally was staged in Gaza on Tuesday in protest at the apathy maintained by the international community as regards the tough Israeli siege.
The rally was staged by the Union of Agricultural Work Committees in partnership with local fishermen in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
The rally-goers urged the international community to rally round Gazans and to take urgent action against the decade-long blockade on the enclave.
Speaking on behalf of the Agricultural Work Union an activist said all socio-economic sectors have seen a setback in the coastal enclave as the Israeli occupation authorities tightened grip around Gazans’ neck.
The protesters chanted slogans pushing for lifting the siege on Gaza and expanding the fishing zone.
Speaking to the PIC fisherman Ahmad Bakr spoke out against the Israeli restrictions slapped on Palestinian fishermen and the cutback of the fishing zone in an area where fish could barely be caught.
Palestinian fishermen are allowed only to set sail within a six-nautical-mile zone after Israel reneged on its pledges to expand the zone to nine miles.
The demonstrators headed to the UN office in Gaza expressing their disappointment over the agency’s lack of concern and calling for an urgent action to lift the life-threatening siege.
