GAZA (PIC)– Dr. Ghazi Hamad the PA premier’s spokesman has been nominated to the post of PA interior minister to replace Hani Al-Kawasmi who resigned about a month ago for not being accorded enough jurisdictions to implement his proposed security plan.
Well informed Palestinian sources said that Hamad was included in the list of Hamas’ nominees to the portfolio following the Makkah agreement with Fatah but his apparent affiliation with Hamas made Fatah turn down his nomination.
The sources said that Hamad enjoyed good relations with the PA presidency which might pave the way for PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’ approval of Hamad’s nomination to the interior portfolio which is currently being temporarily administered by PA premier Ismail Haneyya.
Haneyya on Friday chaired a meeting for commanders of PA security apparatuses during which they discussed means of starting implementation of the security plan to end the security mess in PA-run lands and approved the formation of the joint operations room that would be entrusted with following up the plan’s execution.
