Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres on Friday said that he will continue to engage with relevant member states and parties to ensure the safety and well-being of the Palestinians in al-Khalil.
This was voiced in a statement issued by Guterres’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in which he shed light on the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Italy Norway Sweden Switzerland and Turkey following Israel’s decision not to renew the mandate of the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (al-Khalil) (TIPH).
Guterres expressed his hope that an agreement can be found by the parties to preserve the TIPH’s long-standing and valuable contribution to conflict prevention and the protection of Palestinians in al-Khalil.
