HIA demands Arab-Islamic summit over Aqsa excavations

Monday 12-February-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– The Higher Islamic Authority (HIA) has demanded the immediate convening of an Arab-Islamic summit to discuss the Israeli excavations at the Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Ekrema Sabri chairman of the Authority said that the summit should also discuss the Zionist programmed scheme against the Aqsa warning of the seriousness of the situation.

The HIA held an emergency meeting last night in occupied Jerusalem and denounced the Israeli government’s insistence on maintaining the diggings at the Magharba gate which is one of the most important historical gates in the holy site.

He noted that all schools were closed and the commercial life was paralyzed ever since the diggings started a few days ago.

For its part the AMB armed wing of Fatah faction fired three “upgraded” Yasser locally made missiles at the Israeli settlement of Sderot near to the Gaza Strip in retaliation to the Israeli excavations at the Aqsa.

Israel acknowledged the fall of the missiles near its settlement but reported no casualties or damage.

In occupied Jerusalem Palestinian youths angered with the excavations at the Aqsa Mosque on Monday threw stones at Israeli cars wounding two settlers.
