Hadmi: Today’s land grab in Silwan “aggression against J’lem

Tuesday 27-December-2022

The Jerusalemite Commission Against Judaization has condemned the appropriation of “al-Hamra” land in the east Jerusalem district of Silwan by Jewish settlers on Tuesday describing the measure as “dangerous aggression against the holy city.”

In press remarks on Tuesday head of the commission Nasser al-Hadmi said that “Silwan district is being targeted as part of the Israeli Judaization policy in the holy city and because of its location near the Aqsa Mosque and the presence of many underground tunnels that were built in the area from Silwan to the Old City of Jerusalem.”

“This seized land is known as al-Hamra and it is owned by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem but it is under the guardianship of a citizen from Silwan” Hadmi explained pointing out that there was a legal dispute over this plot of land.

“There is talk going around among Silwan residents that this land may have been leaked to settlers through the Church and this is what concerns many observers and citizens in the holy city” he said.

“This incident has reminded us of the real estate leakages that happened in Bab al-Khalil and with the Petra Hotel and the Imperial Hotel as well as to many other properties that had been leaked [to settler groups] by the Patriarch” he pointed out.
