Hamad denies condemning Palestinian resistance missiles

Monday 27-November-2006

Dr. Ghazi Hamad the PA government spokesman on Monday categorically denied media reports that he had condemned the firing of the Palestinian resistance missiles at Israeli settlements two hours after the ceasefire went into effect.

He explained in a press release that he never uttered such a statement affirming that he only said that all parties should abide by the agreement and that any violation would be dealt with accordingly.

Hamad stressed that the agreement on halting the firing of missiles in return for the Israeli occupation’s commitment to stopping all kinds of aggressions against the Palestinian people had gone into effect affirming that the agreement reflected the strength and unity of the Palestinians and their understanding of national interests.

The discussions over the past few days among representatives of all forces and factions in the Palestinian arena with the constant follow up of PA premier Ismail Haneyya reflected the seriousness of all parties in shouldering national responsibility the PA government spokesman concluded.

For its part the IOF command declared that its troops would continue military activity in the West Bank regardless of the ceasefire reached with the Palestinian factions.

The Hebrew radio quoted an officer in the central command as saying that the truce only covered the Gaza Strip and was not applicable to the West Bank.

He said that the only amendment to the orders to his army was halting “targeted killing” and added that Palestinian groups were planning raids in the “Israeli depth” and have to be stopped.
