The Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanou said on Monday that demolishing parts of the historical staircase of the Ibrahimi Mosque by the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) constitutes a new “Judaization crime” that violates the Palestinian holy sites.
Spokesman Al-Qanou confirmed that such demolition aims to change the general view of the historical and cultural building of the Ibrahimi Mosque which is part of the Israeli’s Judaization plans in the West Bank city of al-Khalil.
Al-Qanou called on the Palestinian people to confront the Israeli Judaization plans in al-Khalil and preserve the identity of the Islamic holy sites.
Earlier on Monday the IOA resumed demolishing the staircase of the Ibrahimi Mosque as part of a plan to install an electric elevator to facilitate the Jewish settlers’ entry into the Mosque.
In May 2020 the Israeli premier (the then army minister) Naftali Bennett approved the land confiscation order against the Palestinian areas near the Ibrahimi Mosque in order to install the electric elevator.
